Sr. Accountant

The Sr. Accountant provides comprehensive financial accounting, budgeting and reporting in a fast paced environment for Clayton Early Learning.  This position is responsible for federal, state, local, and private grant accounting for funds received, including grant reconciliation, budgeting, allocation entries, invoicing, and maintaining accurate and organized files for related grants.  As part of the Accounting staff, this position will play a key role for year-end audit for the organization with various responsibilities for reporting.  The Sr. Accountant will assist the Controller with month end close processing, balance sheet reconciliations, and forecast analysis. 




  • Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance. 
  • Prepares invoices to funding sources.
  • Prepares monthly grant reconciliations for internal reporting and compliance reporting to funders
  • Prepares journal entries in accordance with GAAP, utilizing appropriate supporting documentation. 
  • Reconciles various revenue streams with external reporting and received funding 
  • Assists with audit preparation.  
  • Provides ad-hoc reporting on fund balances and budget variances as requested by the Controller or CFO. 
  • Provides support for Clayton Early Learning staff across all departments in regards to fiscal matters. 
  • Maintains relationships with  accounting partners with various funders.
  • Works directly with other members of the accounting team, including clerks and Sr. Accountant, to achieve departmental goals.
  • Back up on federal grant reporting and compliance, as well as CCAP processing.
  • Back up for other accounting responsibilities, which may include AP, AR, and Payroll


  • Regular attendance is required, including specified meetings, some of which may be off site.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.



  • Minimum Education: BS in Accounting required. Some experience with non-profit and grant accounting is preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years experience as an accountant or similar role in a fiscal office.


  • Special professional and/or job-related requirements: Current PPD-TB and physical examination, record of immunizations, background check, and compliance with other regulatory requirements as applicable.  Proficiency in Windows applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Experience with Abila MIP Software preferred.  Strong organizational and communication skills.
