POSITION SUMMARY:

Non-Profit Experience is mandatory for this position

As the Controller at Clayton Early Learning, lead the fiscal team with responsibility for maximizing the return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and maintenance of reporting systems. The Controller oversees cost and general accounting, accounts receivable/collection and payroll. The Controller is expected to manage the accounting department towards efficient and value-added processes, and interact effectively with all levels of the organization. The Controller will provide leadership, and training to support excellence, develop processes and work collaboratively with the Director Team. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide direct supervision and support for the Fiscal Team. This includes providing guidance on efficient processes and provide support for general accounting procedures.  Promote professional development of staff to continue to improve skill and knowledge in Accounting.
  • Provides financial projections by coordinating budget/forecast preparation for grants and contracts; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial information; advising directors on the collection and analysis of financial results.
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures. 
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by researching existing and new regulations.  
  • Works with CFO to plan for audits as required, including annual financial audits and any ad hoc grant/contract audits.  Coordinates required activities with Fiscal Team for preparation of audit. 
  • Manages budget variance reporting and provides CFO with monthly financial information on financial results. 
  • Hires, trains, develops and appraises staff effectively. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate. 
  • Keeps up-to-date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.          

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Represents the organization in the community to enhance collaboration and advance brand and reputation.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: 

Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting and 5 or more years of experience in managing an accounting function in a not for profit organization, specifically with Federal and Private grants management experience.

Special professional and/or job-related requirements: Current PPD-TB and physical examination, record of immunizations, background check, and compliance with other regulatory requirements as applicable.

  • Proficiency in Windows applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), with demonstrated expertise in Excel-based financial modeling.
  • Strong analytical abilities and results orientation
  • Experience with Abila MIP Software
  • Strong organizational skills, project/task management experience and cross-functional coordination skills.
