Night Security Guard

Department: Administration
Location: Denver, CO


Patrols and monitors the Clayton campus buildings and Head Start centers on a nightly basis while providing general and preventive maintenance/grounds work to meet safety and licensing standards and requirements, Monday - Friday, 4:00pm  - 11:00pm. 





  • Patrols grounds throughout the night ensuring that all areas of the Clayton campus are monitored.
  • Maintains an event log of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons or unusual occurrences.
  • Responds to alarms, security situations and other incidents taking action as directed.
  • Calls police or fire departments in the case of an emergency, such as a fire or the presence of an unauthorized person. 
  • Monitors and reviews information from materials, events or the environment to detect and assess problems or situations.
  • Carries out repairs and light maintenance duties as assigned.


  • Shovels and removes snow from walks and parking lots and applies ice melt as needed.


  • Monitors and reports any lights that are out throughout the campus including exit signs and parking lot lights.


  • Empties recycle bins a minimum of two times per week.


  • Demonstrates responsible professional behavior at all times.


  • Is responsible for regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule and Clayton Early Learning policies.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.




  • Must be able to communicate both orally and in written form.


  • Grasp and manipulate office equipment, hand tools and similar other tools and materials.


  • Conduct activities involving walking, stooping, kneeling/bending, crouching, crawling, twisting and reaching on a frequent basis.


  • Work with hands above shoulder height with a weight up to 10 pounds.


  • Work with arms extended at shoulder height with a weight up to 10 pounds.


  • Lift, carry, push, and/or pull a burden weighing up to 50 pounds on a limited basis.


  • Participate in routine conversation in person or via telephone and distinguish telephone, radio/pager signals, alarms and other auditory tones such as distress in a parentís or childís voice.


  • Distinguish small objects at near and far distances in conditions of bright or low light.  Distinguish color and depth, and see objects in a wide field of vision.


  • Operate vehicles including vans and other company vehicles.



QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum education: 

  • High School/GED


Certificates or licenses:

  • Valid Driverís License with evidence of auto insurance and clean driving record.


Work experience in positions similar or related to this job: 

  • At least 2 years of experience in general maintenance.
  • At least 1 year of general security experience. 


Special professional and/or job-related requirements: 

  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, heat, carpentry, light and power repair procedures, as well as painting, concrete work, etc.  Working knowledge of small engine maintenance and repair, knowledge of sprinkler systems and repair of such systems. 
  • Computer Literacy is required. 


Additional requirements include:

  • Successfully passes the following, Public arrest record, CBI criminal background check, and Central Registry and MVR background checks. 


Reporting Relationships:

  • This position reports to the Facilities Director
