Research and Evaluation Associate - ERS

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for implementing assessments and inter-rater reliability services and consultation to support quality improvement efforts in early childhood programs across the state. Provide local and statewide training, and support continuous reliability and certification of Environment Rating Scales (ERS) assessors on the rating scales. Disseminate information from the ERS or CLASS®tools with integrity and accuracy. Conduct classroom- and organization-based assessment work for various grants, contracts, research projects, and other fee-for-service work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct Environment Rating Scales reliability observations and certification visits for Quality Assessment Associates within Colorado Shines and other early childhood professionals and coaches across the state. Schedule observations and visit classrooms with another person, unobtrusively observe for approximately three hours, record detailed notes on designated scoresheets, review, discuss, and train raters and coaches on content based on the observation.
  • Maintain expertise by achieving anchor-level reliability on all Rating Scales and undergo reliability status checks by the ERSI team in North Carolina and periodic inter-rater reliability checks with other Clayton team members and/or managers.
  • Develop and facilitate trainings related to the Environment Rating Scales and playground safety, and additional training needs as they arise. Collaborate across Clayton Departments to develop content and aid in the review process of trainings.
  • Provide specialized expertise to Quality Rating Specialists during regular clarification meetings, to coaches across the state during Coaches Meetings, and to members of the community by answering questions and participating in the team consensus process.
  • Assess Denver Preschool Program (DPP) and other preschool classrooms using the Pre-K CLASS® and maintain annual reliability on the tool. For DPP, follow all policies and protocols developed by the DPP CLASS® Project and attend required meetings.  
  • Produce high quality feedback reports for the DPP CLASS®project, various research projects, and fee-for-service work along with any additional required paperwork/documentation.
  • Establish monthly schedules for observations and other work to independently plan and organize workload. Review calendar utilizing Microsoft Outlook no later than the month prior to assigned caseloads, select observation dates based on program information, and enter all details of each appointment

Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in early childhood education, education, curriculum and instruction, or adult learning.

Work experience in positions similar to this job: Three years of experience working in an early childhood setting and one to three years of experience using the Environment Rating Scales.  

Special training or experience:

Training, experience and reliability in one or more of the Environment Rating Scales and the PreK CLASS®tool required.
